The Venue
An Islington Town Hall Wedding
Islington Town Hall opened in 1930 and is Grade II listed. Designed in a grand Classical style by E.C.P. Monson, it has a double-height entrance hall with a marble staircase lit by a round skylight, an octagonal Council Chamber with oak panelling, and rooms that still have their original chandeliers.
It is one of the busiest and best-loved register offices in London, and it is easy to see why. The staircase is made for a slow walk down together, the light from the skylight is soft and flattering, and Upper Street outside gives you a lively London backdrop the moment you step out of the door.

- Council Chamber (85 at weekends, 50 on weekdays)The grand option, with oak panelling, stained glass, pews and the marble staircase. Not available on Mondays.
- Richmond Suite (up to 60)Saturdays only. It is a listed room without air conditioning, so it can be warm in summer, worth knowing for a July wedding.
- Room 99 (up to 20)A lovely room for smaller weddings, with a parquet floor and three Italian chandeliers.
- Mayor’s Parlour (up to 4)An intimate choice on Fridays and Saturdays, perfect for elopements.
- Statutory RoomA short legal ceremony of around 20 minutes with two adult witnesses, for Islington and City of London residents.
Good news for your guest list: guest numbers at Islington do not include the couple, the registrars or one professional photographer.

Islington Town Hall Wedding Photos: What to Know
Ceremonies at Islington usually last around 20 minutes, or up to 40 minutes if you choose a fully personalised ceremony. With other weddings before and after yours, timings are tight, so we plan the day around your ceremony slot: arrivals outside and in the entrance hall, the ceremony and signing, then the staircase and group photos before the next couple arrives.
If you book exclusive use, you get the public areas for photos and no other ceremonies for an hour before and two hours after yours, which gives us much more freedom inside the building. Note that availability from January to March 2027 is limited because of possible works.
Portrait Spots
Photo Spots Near Islington Town Hall
Islington is full of good portrait spots within walking distance. Canonbury Square, with its Georgian terraces and garden, is only a few minutes away and works beautifully in any season. Highbury Fields offers open grass and tree-lined paths for relaxed, natural portraits.
Heading south, Islington Green and the antique shops of Camden Passage give you a classic London street feel, and the Regent’s Canal is close enough for waterside photos if you have a little extra time. We will suggest a route that matches your timings and your reception venue.
