The Venue
A Shoreditch Town Hall Wedding
Shoreditch Town Hall began life as a vestry hall in 1866 and was enlarged around 1900. It is Grade II listed, with a Portland stone front, Corinthian columns and a statue of “Progress” above the motto “More Light, More Power”, a nod to the borough once generating its own electricity.
Inside, a Minton tiled entrance hall leads to a double staircase, a Council Chamber with a coved ceiling and Ionic columns, and the Assembly Hall with its coffered ceiling, marble panels and large chandeliers. Today it is run by a charity as an arts and events venue, which gives weddings here a creative, characterful feel unlike any other town hall in London.

Shoreditch Town Hall Wedding Photos: What to Know
Shoreditch Town Hall is a venue you hire, rather than a register office, so your ceremony is conducted by a registrar from Hackney Register Office, booked separately. Book them early, as availability is not guaranteed. The venue offers full-day hire from 9am to 5pm, or half-day hire of 4 hours.
Because you have the building to yourselves, there is much more time for photos than at a busy register office. The tiled entrance hall, the double staircase and the Assembly Hall are all wonderful for portraits and group shots. There is no food or drink in the ceremony room for an hour before and during the ceremony, so plan your welcome drinks elsewhere in the building.

St Leonard’s Church, the “bells of Shoreditch” church, is just a few minutes away, and Hoxton Square is a leafy spot surrounded by galleries and bars. For colourful street portraits, Redchurch Street is full of independent shops and brick warehouses.
A little further, the bandstand at Arnold Circus on the Boundary Estate is a hidden gem, and the gardens of the Museum of the Home on Kingsland Road are calm and green. We will plan a route that fits your timings.
